GTC PRODUCTS IN DEVELOPMENT - Monoclonal Antibodies GTC Biotherapeutics (GTC) is a pioneer in the development of monoclonal antibodies and other recombinant proteins expressed transgenically. We are the first company to have expressed monoclonal antibodies in the milk of transgenic animals and offer a unique intellectual property position - U.S. Patent 5,827,690 which grants us exclusive rights to produce monoclonal and other assembled antibodies transgenically in the milk of all mammals at commercially useful levels. While cell culture is sometimes capable of delivering modestly high expression levels in certain antibodies, transgenic technology has expression levels that are consistent for a broad range of antibodies. GTC has regularly achieved expression levels of three to five grams per liter for the monoclonal antibodies we have tested, with concentrations as high as 20 grams per liter in some cases. We have expressed more than 20 different monoclonal antibodies and Ig fusion proteins in mice, 8 of these in goats. Several of the monoclonal antibodies in development have projected annual requirements of greater than a 1000 kilograms. Due to the high expression levels we can achieve using this technology, transgenics will be able to meet these market demands.
